Design Salon Night

There are few things I like more then a dinner party.
Good friends, conversation, food, candles and wine = one of life's great joys.

Press: Bev Hisey's home in Chatelaine

The home of textile designer Bev Hisey is featured in the current issue of Chatelaine.

My Big Orange scissor print can be seen in her new bright + airy livingroom.
It was amazing for me to see the pics of her newly renovated space because when I dropped off the scissor print last fall her space was full of muted greys + dark furniture.

When I last saw this space it was a dark + tiny victorian kitchen. Bev + hubby Dan replaced the back wall of the house with glass to make the small space feel large + bright. What a difference!

A post on Bev must include a pic of my all favourite Bev Hisey textile ... her juicy Moroccan rug. (Happy to say those are my feet... cuz lucky me it's in my bedroom)

All the photos of Bev's house are fun + inspirational. Check the magazine out on news stands now.

New Tumblr Account: Pure imput

My first two Tumblr posts.

Kim's gorgeous orange tulips in her wonderful black + white kitchen. Kim follows Apt Therapy's belief that fresh flowers = a happy home.

The photography of stylist and photographer Pia Jane Bijerk.
Simply stunning.

I started a Tumblr account yesterday. Despite the fact that I feel there are far too many social media doo-hickys going on these days I decided that Tumblr might be a very handy way for me to keep a running inspiration board in digital form. I constantly find images that rock my world but they often hang out on my desk top and never make it to the blog due to lack of time. (Can you relate?) Am hoping Tumblr will solve this problem and result in a juicy stream of images representing the visual imput entering my brain on a daily basis.
Enjoy!

WOW:Tim Walker: The Peter Pan of British Photography

Magical. Love the giant watering can and tipsy lamp.
Side note: As my friend Janet said "It would be nice to have his budgets!"

To me this looks straight outta a dream.

So does this.

This one doesn't fit with his fantasy style but I love it anyway.

I'm working on a new project for the IDS show in January. The client has asked for something very "Whimsical/ Alice in Wonderlandish". While hunting for inspiration I came across the wonderous work of photographer Tim Walker*.

Using stunning sets + lavish locations Tim creates narrative photo-stories with dreamlike fantasy lands where animals + humans interact, giant props take center stage and the everyday is juxtaposed with the absurd. As design traveller explains his photo creations contain collective unconscious archetypes so that they are easily-read, mysteriously touching and Alive.

A note on his creative process: On his website Tim Walker explains that keeping a scrapbook is key to work. Methought very interesting.

* Discovered through design traveller (again!)

Inspiration: Elle Muliarchyk

Elle Muliarchyk:
Model turned photographer and director
. She started out by surreptitiously taking photographs of herself in dressing rooms. Very guerrilla! Gutsy. Takes Risks. Inspirational.
