New Illustrations for THE KIP

For the past few months I've been working on illustrations with the fantastic Communications Firm 52 Pick up.  The gig was for a new condo development in the West end called THE KIP.
Their website launched last Wednesday and you can now see all the illos here.

I was really happy with the limited palette in the illos and how the designers matched up the colours in the type treatment. Also love the KIP logo. Very fresh!

The Artscape Salon is coming up next Wed May 7th.

he he.

There's a fantastic list of guests this year including Principal dancer of the National Ballet of Canada Sonia Rodriguez, Actor David Sutcliffe Fine artist + Illustrator Gary Taxali, Director of the AGO Matthew Teitelbaum and musician Maylee Todd. (and me... with a full head!)

Next, while you dine on a fantastic 4 course menu, the 20 speakers will move from table to table in a speed-dating-like format (ooh ahh)  igniting conversations with all guests about topics at the intersection of art and the city.

New Eloise print

My new Eloise print is now complete.
She was printed on two different papers:

Eloise printed on Cream Somerset paper.
This paper has a lovely weight (300 GSM) and has a great texture and deckle edge.

Eloise printed on White BFK Rives paper.
This paper also has a very good weight (270 GSM) with a smooth finish and deckle edge.
This photo gives a good idea of the deckle edge.

Eloise measures 9" x 12"
She is part of an edition of 40 and is numbered and signed.
She is 150.00 and is available now in my shop.

Below are some process shots.

Mixing the orange ink for Eloise purse.
(trying to match it to the print out)
Print after Pass 1 (grey) and Pass 2 (orange) are completed
Registering (figuring out the placement) of the 3rd pass with the acetate.

Applying the black ink to the screen for the final pass.
Completed print!

Uppercase magazine: Special Surface Design issue

The latest issue of Uppercase magazine is out and it's a great one.

It's a Special Surface Design issue and includes interviews with all the big names in the surface design world:  Michelle Bencsko of Cloud9 fabrics, Marie Perkins of Print and Pattern, Stephen Fraser of Spoonflower, Victorine Lamothe of Te Neues* (who I just worked for - yay) and the always inspiring Lotta Jandotter. If you're interested in breaking into the world of pattern and design this issue is a must.

Issue 21 also includes a gallery of 100 surface designers. Below is my inclusion.

*My boxed note cards for Te Neues will be out in June.
They're called Victorian birdies and I'm looking forward to sharing them with you.

New Bouquet drawing inspired by Coriander Girl

I am longing for Spring so decided to draw some flowers today.
For inspiration I turned to a photo of a gorgeous rustic bouquet created
by local florist Alison Westlake of Coriander Girl.

Here is the gorgeous photo by Trish Papadakos that inspired my drawing.
As you can see I recreated a lot of the flowers + leaves in the photo but changed the container.
(Artistic license!)
